The Social Summit merges some of the greatest marketing minds of our time
with innovative, inspired and successful business leaders big and small.

It was conceived as a way to provide the training, tools and insight needed to transform organizations from the inside out.

From November 25-27, 2015, The Social Summit will play host to hundreds of marketing and sales professionals from a host of industries at The Globe Cinema in downtown Calgary.

Through captivating keynotes, game changing breakout sessions, up close and personal learning experiences and a whack of exciting networking opportunities, it’s your turn to experience Calgary's legendary Social Summit.

As with all Social Summit events prior, we anticipate this will be a sold-out social smash-up you won’t soon forget nor regret.

SOCIAL SUMMIT FOUNDERS:

MIKE MORRISON AND KELLY DOODY

Once upon a hot summer day, Kelly was 1,000 months pregnant and Mike was sipping a brewski, both of them stretched out across the far-too-cool-for-them Hotel Arts pool, feet dangling in the water alongside a handful of paying customers.

"Huh," said Mike, thoughts of Mindy the cat dancing in his head. "People really need help with social media."

"Well," said fat-footed Kelly, "most of them don't do it for a living or have a robust career as a Bloggity Blog, and it's not as easy as you think when you're also trying to run a business.."

"I know, I know," said Mike. "But I just want to teach them a few things and help them be so much better. Even just the smallest adjustments that can change everything."

"I hear you," said Kelly. "But I also want to kick it up a notch... bring something to life in Calgary that's long overdue, becomes something awesome and attracts a great crowd of insanely talented people."

"You know we've been talking about doing this for a really long time now," said Mike.

"Yes," said Kelly. "Since you were a blossoming Bloggity and I was playing paparazzi for the Sun."

And so they did.

Speaking of social.

Hi, Mike Morrison here. I started Mike's Bloggity Blog blog back in 2006 as a way of staying in touch with friends and family. It was that weird and confusing time between ICQ and Facebook, and I’ve always loved writing, so the blog was born.

I love to show Canadians all the cool things happening in this country. From TV shows to hilarious videos, fantastic music and unbelievable stories from the deep hallows of Reddit. I also love exploring, meaning you’ll find blog posts dedicated to everyday travel, road trips, interviews and contests. At the end of the day, I write about all the fun things that make people love being Canadian.

Mike’s Bloggity Blog averages 64,000 unique users a month, with 87% of those coming from Canada, resulting in about 88,000 page views a month.

If I'm not blogging or social posting, I’m working on sponsorships with some of Canada’s biggest brands, teaching classes on social media and content marketing, hosting an event or travelling. Particularly if it's on my bike, which is what led me to my latest project, Calgary By Bike – a bestselling guide to Calgary's new cycle track network.

Welcome to #YYC

A few suggestions to help you get the most out of your TRIP TO
THE SOCIAL SUMMIT, OUR FAIR CITY OF CALGARY, and the
faces, places and spaces that make IT AMAZING.

#1

What’s the weather like in November? Who knows. But one thing we do know for sure is that our +15 system will keep you toasty warm and dry. It’s the world's most extensive pedestrian skywalk system, in fact, winding a total of 18 km through the downtown core, with a whopping 59 bridges connecting it all.

#2

Speaking of getting around, Calgary now has beautifully separated bike lanes throughout the core. They connect perfectly to the pre-existing trails around the city, making us home to the largest cycle network in all of North America. Now how's that for clean and green?

Speaking of, according to a recent report in Forbes Magazine, Calgary ranks as the cleanest city in the world. We repeat: The. Cleanest. Germophobes rejoice!

#4

Calgary is home to dozens of food trucks, but we also have a growing fleet of mobile artisan boutiques. Think less food, more clothing, records and one-of-a-kind treasures. Keep your eyes peeled – regardless of the season, there's likely one rolling by with something for everyone on your holiday list.

#5

We fancy ourselves a highly multicultural town, with more than 120 languages spoken within our city walls. But, rest assured that Spanish, Swahili or otherwise, a friendly-smile is universal, and we're known for our white-hatted hello's.

Stephen Avenue is an official National Historic Site of Canada. It consists of nearly three dozen commercial buildings from the 1880-1930's era. Today, the street is filled with pubs, patios and some of the city’s top restaurants, and there's simply no better place to grab a seat and people watch – day or night.

#7

Looking to catch a live performance you won't soon forget? Arts Commons in the heart of downtown Calgary features six different theatres, guaranteeing there’s always something spectacular to be seen and heard.

#8

Feel like walking in the shoes of an Olympic athlete for the day? Head out to Winsport – host ski hill of the 1988 Olympic Winter Games and remarkably located within Calgary's northern city limits – and challenge yourself to the bobsled experience. You'll be travelling up to 120 km/h while experiencing 5G forces before you can tighten up your toque and say 'weeee!!'.

#9

While some of Calgary's newer skyscrapers have stolen its title of the tallest building in town, the Calgary Tower still offers an incredible 360-degree view of the city, not to mention a rather terrifying glass floor for the brave, and an award-winning revolving restaurant for the hungry.

#10

And if by chance it's retail therapy or full court Christmas shopping you're after while in town, it doesn't get any better than The Core, Calgary's luxury shopping centre spanning three downtown city blocks and boasting more than 160 unique retailers across four fabulous levels. But first things first... have you secured your Social Summit ticket?

“As communications professionals, we’ve probably all had the unfortunate experience of attending a professional development event that turned out to be a complete waste of time, or worse, you needed toothpicks to keep your eyes open. Happily, The Social Summit was excellent for all the right reasons, presenters Kelly and Mike were fantastic, content was jam packed with relevant info, and the atmosphere was very cool.”
— Janice Francey, The Calgary Foundation
“I found it very helpful and informative. I took away some real great nuggets of information that I could apply immediately and work on in the future.”
— Jessica Kostka, Breakaway Strategies
“The Social Summit was a valuable experience that really helped to widen my awareness of how I can leverage my existing brand. I really enjoyed the format.”
— Rafael Lopez, Redlime Marketing
“I thought it was very informative and well put together. I attended the first and third sessions and found that I could use the info and relate to a different speaker each time. I was happy I chose to attend!”
— Karen Humphrey
“I thought the Social Summit was informative, well organized, inspiring, creative, casual, interesting, well balanced... I could go on. I just want to say keep them coming and congratulations on a incredible job as I look forward to attending more in the future.”
— Jeremy Fokkens, Jeremy Fokkens Photography
“I really liked the way it was structured with informational slides, the media able to speak on their experience and then an open question period. I especially found it helpful when the media panel talked about how they prefer to be contacted, i.e. phone, email, tweets, etc.”
— Catrinel Popescu

A few helpful answers to your frequently asked questions...

Q.   DO YOU OFFER DISCOUNTED TICKET PRICING FOR STUDENTS OR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS?

While we do not offer special pricing for students or non-profits at this time, we continue to try our hardest to keep Social Summit ticket prices as low as possible and extend an affordable option to as many people as we can. As such, we are excited to be able to offer this 2.5-day conference with the most incredible speaker, panelist and keynote line-up we can muster for a much lower overall price than a number of comparable events and conferences.

We do, however, invite you to visit our Community page, where students, non-profits and start-ups can enter to win their way in (the draw for nine free full conference passes will be made on Nov. 15), or consider applying to take in the Summit as a volunteer or community ambassador.

Q.   I'D LIKE TO PURCHASE TICKETS FOR MY TEAM TO ATTEND, BUT WE DON'T YET KNOW EXACTLY WHO WILL BE ATTENDING. CAN I USE MY NAME AS A PLACEHOLDER AND CHANGE THE NAME(S) LATER?

A resounding yes. Provided that you send us any changes no less than two weeks prior to the event (Nov. 11), we will be able to make them. Any changes sent after that aren’t guaranteed to be processed, and, while you will of course still be guaranteed entry, your welcome package may have the wrong name on it. Please send any attendee changes to info@thesocialsummit.ca and we’ll get it done.

Q.   I CAN'T SEEM TO LOCATE MY TICKET AND/OR RECEIPT. IS IT POSSIBLE TO GET ANOTHER COPY?

Absolutely. Send us a note to info@thesocialsummit.ca and we would be happy to resend you all the necessary details.

Q.   AT PREVIOUS SUMMITS YOU OFFERED SINGLE DAY TICKETS. WILL YOU BE DOING THAT AGAIN AT THE NOVEMBER 2015 EVENT?

We will not be offering single day tickets to November's Summit for two reasons. First, we need to carefully monitor and manage the number of tickets sold across both full days of the event (Nov. 26 and 27) so that neither of our theatres are over or undersold.

Second, we have designed the event to be of maximum benefit when experienced in its entirety, rather than for a single day. Having said that, if you are unable to attend both days of the Summit for any reason, we welcome you to gift your pass to a friend or colleague on the second day.

Q.   WILL REFRESHMENTS BE PROVIDED?

We are very excited to extend a tasty lineup of perks, snacks and drinks to Social Summit attendees. With everything from morning cappuccinos and coffee courtesy of Rosso Coffee Roasters, to fresh cold-pressed juice from Cru, seasonal gelato from Fiasco, sweet treats from Crave and cold beer from Village, The Social Summit is shaping up to be unfathomably delicious.

Please note that lunch will not be included, but from the Globe Cinema's central location in Calgary's downtown core, there are dozens of nearby cafes and restaurants to grab a bite at.

Q.   DO YOU OFFER TICKET REFUNDS?

Whatever your reason, if your request for a refund comes to us outside of the seven days prior to the event (so, on or before Weds, Nov. 18), we would be most happy to cancel your ticket purchase and give you a full refund. Past that date, however, we have secured our numbers, ordered attendee nametags, created your welcome kit and are off to the races – no refunds permitted. You are again most welcome to give your pass to someone else, however, should you be feeling generous and find a suitable (lucky!) candidate.
